KUALA LUMPUR: Police have set up several road blocks leading to the city centre this morning.
Police were seen diverting traffic off the New Pantai Expressway at the Angkasapuri in Jalan Pantai Baru, KL Sentral, Brickfields and Jalan Syed Putra.
Roads around Dataran Merdeka, the venue for the Bersih rally, have also been closed to traffic, leading to traffic building up on other roads heading to the venue.
In anticipation of the rally a total of 58 roads in 10 areas of the city centre have been closed off to vehicular traffic by the police.
The roads and areas designated as no-entry zones to vehicles are: Dataran Maybank, Bangsar, Brickfields, Masjid Negara, Muzium Negara, Sogo, Dataran Merdeka, Parliament, Bank Negara, Jalan Pudu, PWTC and Chow Kit.
Checks by theSun with the policemen on duty at the road blocks revealed that the road closures began at 7am, and are expected to last until the evening.
It is learnt that the train services will continue as usual, taxi services into the city centre will most likely be unavailable, given the numerous road closures and traffic diversions.
Meanwhile, several motorists were seen to be furious with the road closures with some resorting to parking their vehicles at KL Sentral and utilize the train services.
