Police arrest Hishamuddin Rais

KUALA LUMPUR: In a latest spate of arrests by the police on rally organisers, Hishamuddin Rais was arrested in Bangsar today as he was making his way to join protesters at the Bersih 5 rally.
He did however manage to give a speech asking the crowd to go on with their protests and to not be intimidated by the arrests.
This comes after police had confirmed that 10 other leaders including pro Bersih politicians, activists and even Red shirt's leaders.
"The arrests on these individuals are to curb rioting and to maintain the peace of the public during the Bersih 5 rally," said Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh.
He said that these individuals were arrested under section 147 and 511 of the penal code.
Section 147 states a punishment for rioting and section 511 is a Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment.
Among those arrested include Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos, Bersih Chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah, Seremban MP Anthony Loke, and Pandamaran Assemblyman Ronnie Liu.
