BUTTERWORTH: A total of 202 people comprising teachers and students of Maahad Tahfiz Ibnu Sina Al Mawaddah, want a popular tour company to return their money for failing to honour the promised umrah package.
The religious education centre's adviser Mohd Neezam Mohd Ariffin said he and others paid for a package to visit Egypt and umrah as promised in January this year but to date the company had failed to take them there and their money was not returned.
"This Mahabbah Tour (Religious Tour) involved a cost of RM6,600 for each participant and they should have travelled in January this year.
"Unfortunately, when all payments had been made, the tour group arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and we were shocked when told there was no such name in the system and our tickets were fake," he told a press conference here today.
He also said following the incident the image of the religious education centre was also tarnished as many thought the school had cheated since the tour was arranged by the centre.
Mohd Neezam said the centre had lodged a report with police and the Public Complaints Bureau as well as the Tourism Ministry on the matter and one of the three directors of the company had been picked up by police early this month. — Bernama
