Perak aims for eight million tourists next year

IPOH: Perak targets eight million tourists in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2017, with a 10% increase in foreigners and 20% locals.
Tourism, Art, Culture, Multi Media Communication committee chairman Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohamed Radzi (BN-Tualang Sekah) said even if a visitor spends RM300, then the expected target of tourists can bring in a RM24 billion revenue.
He said the state had discussions with two national tourism operators in Japan to bring in 30,000 tourists who will stay in Ipoh and Kuala Kangsar," she said in her reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun (BN-Lintang).
She added the state is working hand-in-hand with the Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce to get some 100,000 tourists from China besides tourists from Asean countries, Australia and Europe.
Since Nov 2013, the state has state has already drawn its plans to promote tourism which include promotion and marketing, events and seminars, physical and human resources development.
The state is also increasing the number of billboards and signboards at entry points to promote the Visit Perak Year 2017 besides doing promotions overseas during tourist fairs.
