41 malaria cases detected in Pos Kemar Orang Asli Settlement

IPOH: Forty-one malaria cases were detected in the Pos Kemar Orang Asli Settlement, Hulu Perak with all receiving treatment at Grik hospital since Nov 16.
Health, Public Transport, Non Islamic Affairs, National Integration and New Villages committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said initially three cases were detected in Kampung Senangit on Nov 16.
"Following active case detection for Plasmodium bivax (P. Vivax) strain a total of 41 cases were reported ," he told reporters on the sidelines of the Perak State Assembly.
Until Nov 20, a total of 334 Orang Asli had undergone slide blood tests.
Dr Mah said out of the 41 people, 24 were men and 17 women aged between one and 50 years.
Pos Kemar is a high risk settlement and residual fogging and distribution of medicated blankets had been conducted since 2011 until May 2015.
Dr Mah said health authorities had distributed similar blankets to 90 houses from the 317 target. A total of 40 houses were fogged.
The health authorities are tracing all the people the victims came in contact with besides tracking the source within a two-kilometre radius.
