KUALA TERENGGANU: Four flood mitigation plan (RTB) projects in the state, which were planned in 2010 have yet to be implemented.
The Auditor-General's Report 2015 Series 2 released in Dewan Rakyat today stated that it was due to the lack of allocation and the incomplete land reacquisition process.
The four projects are the Banggol Air Lilih drainage system in Kuala Nerus, the Padang Lebam drainage system in Bukit Payong, Bandar Baru Kerteh drainage system in Kemaman and the construction of a drainage system and a retention pond in Alor Limbat, Marang.
Under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP), a total of 1,163 RTB projects were lined up to be implemented throughout the state.
Of the total, 630 projects were financed through state government's allocation of RM243.72 million and 533 projects were financed by the federal government, involving RM74.50 million.
"A total of 1,157 out of 1,163 projects managed to be completed in the 10MP period, 625 of which were state government projects (99.2%) and 532 were the federal government projects (99.8%) while the remaining six projects are still being implemented," the report said.
However, the audit carried out on 10 RTB projects found that four projects were completed within the prescribed period, three projects were completed within the approved extension of time and three other projects were completed but were imposed with the liquidated and ascertained damages.
In order to ensure a smooth running of the RTB projects, the report recommended that the Irrigation and Drainage Department which responsible for managing flood problems be given adequate financial allocation. — Bernama
