KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry is prepared to work with the National Audit Department to conduct further audit on the 1BestariNet project in schools.
Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon (pix) said the ministry had conducted an internal audit on the project, namely on weaknesses in its implementation.
He told this to reporters at Parliament lobby in response to a statement by Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang today that the Audit Department would conduct further audit on the 1BestariNet service soon to evaluate the effectiveness of the project on schools involved.
Ambrin said the decision was made on the request of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) following the many complaints received from schools and parents, including in relation to the slow internet speed.
1BestariNet is an initiative by the Education Ministry to replace and improve the information and communication technology (ICT) networks in schools with the first phase implemented in 2011 involving RM663 million.
This 15-year three-phase project, involving cost of RM4.077 billion, entered its second phase in July. — Bernama
