Upin and Ipin platform instills passion in agriculture: Ahmad Shabery

PUTRAJAYA: The selection of popular animation characters, Upin and Ipin, as mascots of the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism (MAHA) 2016 International Show has become a platform to educate and nurture children's interest in agriculture.
Agriculture and Agro based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the involvement of Upin and Ipin through the segment 'Kampung Durian Runtuh' at the MAHA 2016 gave a new dimension in the agro education aspect this time.
"MAHA 2016 is not only for adults involved in agriculture but it also introduces the importance of agriculture to children.
"Among the activities in Kampung Durian Runtuh that Upin and Ipin have accomplished are stage shows, introducing land and crops; pests and friends of crops and an appreciation for the earth," he told reporters after the pre-launch of Kampung Durian Runtuh Upin and Ipin and film preview of Upin and Ipin Jeng Jeng Jeng here on Wednesday night.
He said the Kampung Durian Runtuh Upin and Ipin segment is expected to attract over 500,000 visitors in conjunction with this school holidays.
