Abused girl's future to be decided pending police investigation

ALOR STAR: The future of a four-year-old girl in a severe abuse case will be decided pending the police investigation and her treatment at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani.
The Social Welfare Department is waiting for the completion of the investigation and her treatment before deciding on childcare for the girl, who is believed to have suffered abuse from her mother and her boyfriend in her home at Paya Nahu flats in Sungai Petani.
Its director Md Noor Chik said the department's officials had been assigned to monitor the situation so that appropriate action could be taken to help the girl.
"We will help the maximum possible. We will assess the situation if the girl needs to be placed in a safe place somewhere or to live with her next of kin," he said when contacted by Bernama, here, today.
Early this morning, Kuala Muda police received a complaint on an altercation at the girl's home, which revealed her abuse case which also led police to finding the remains of a two-year-old boy.
The remains were found wrapped in a thick blanket and concealed in a drum in one of the rooms of the flat unit.
Police detained the victim's 26-year-old mother and her 34-year-old boyfriend who are being remanded for seven days to facilitate the investigation.
Meanwhile, a Bernama check at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital found that the girl was still receiving treatment at the children's ward and no visitors were allowed.
State Health director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said his department was still awaiting a full report on the case. — Bernama
