Enforcement officer charged with cheating company owner of RM3,000

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) assistant enforcer was yesterday charged at a magistrates' court here with cheating a company owner of RM3,000.
Mohamad Azmir Mohd Tajudin, 38, claimed trial when the interpreter read the charge in front of the magistrate 11 Diannee Ningrad Nor Azahar.
The accused, who has been working in the MPSP for 18 years, was charged with promising Lee Teik Enterprise's owner Beh Lee Teik a premise licence for the company and persuading him to pay RM3,000 at Lot 2364, Jalan Kulim, Machang Bubok in October 2014.
Mohamad Azmir was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating where the penalty upon conviction is jail up to 10 years, fine and whipping.
Deputy public prosecutor Kamaliza Md Zain prosecuted the case while the accused was represented by counsel V. S. Kumar.
Kamaliza sought the court to impose a RM10,000 bail while Kumar appealed that it be reduced because Mohamad Azmir, a father to five children, was the sole breadwinner for the family.
The court set bail at RM5,000 and fixed Dec 30 for mention.
