Teachers told to assure parents on accepting education system change

GEORGE TOWN: Teachers have to improve additional skills such as effective communications to assure parents of accepting changes in the country's education system.

Education deputy director-general Datuk Dr Amin Senin said it was easier for parents to accept and place their full confidence on teachers to teach students as set by the Education Ministry.

"But now most of them (parents) have better education and are very sensitive to changes taking place in the national education system, and have frequently questioned the matter.

"As such, the current approach is very different and teachers need to assure parents on the need for changes in the national education system," he told reporters after opening the International Conference on Teacher Learning and Development (ICTLD) here, today.

In this regard, Amin said efforts or government policies to empower the education system would not succeed if teachers did not help to realise them.
Amin said teachers needed to show strong commitment in the teaching and learning processes as their success were measured by the achievements of pupils.

He said teachers should share their expertise to create a strong global network and collaborate in teaching research while instilling the aspiration of life-long learning.

The three-day conference starting today, is an international conference organised by the Malaysian Institute of Teacher Education (IPGM), which is a platform to develop the knowledge of lecturers and teachers by sharing resources and expertise towards realising the vision and mission of the ministry.

The biennial conference is also aimed at generating good practices and innovations in teacher education based on research. — Bernama
