Tebrau MIC Sect's cars were set on fire: Police

JOHOR BARU: Police have confirmed that arson was the cause of the fire that destroyed two cars that belonged to Tebrau MIC division secretary S. Mahendra on Nov 14.

Seri Alam police chief Supt Jokhiri Abd Aziz who confirmed that criminal elements were involved in the fire when contacted by Bernama said investigations conducted by the Fire and Rescue Department's Forensic Unit revealed that the cars were set on fire using petrol (Molotov cocktail).

"Petrol was filled in a plastic, lit up and thrown towards the vehicles. That was the cause of the fire," he said here today.

Jokhiri said since the act of the assailants was not witnessed by anyone, police have yet to arrest any suspects.

Mahendra said he and his family members were asleep when the incident occurred along Jalan Lembah on Monday at about 2.30am.
He had earlier said he woke up to the screams from neighbours who alerted him of the fire that completely damaged his SUV Hyundai Tucsom that was parked in the porch and also affected a Toyota Vios, which was outside the front gate. — Bernama
