Maid gets 12 months jail, fined RM2k for stealing from employer

    MALACCA: A maid will be spending 12 months behind bars for stealing jewellery and cash amounting to more than RM50,000 from her employer.
    Not only that she was also fined RM2,000 by the Ayer Keroh Magistrate's Court today.
    Magistrate Norina Maludin handed down the punishment to Nanik Kuswati, 40, an Indonesian, after she pleaded guilty to stealing RM51,451.02 and four gold chains belonging to her employer, Tan Lee Hwei.
    The single mother committed the offence at the Loh Choo Kiong Temple, 2-A Jalan Bunga Raya here at 1pm on Nov 19. She was liable to be jailed up to seven years and fined.
    The court ordered the accused to serve the jail sentence from the date of her arrest on Nov 22 and an additional two months jail if she defualted on the fine.
    Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Azri Zakaria appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented. — Bernama
