Khairy urges all parties in slumber to wake up

KUALA LUMPUR: Do not just rely on Umno to win the people's votes and only turn up after the elections to ask for cabinet positions.
This was the reminder Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin gave to Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties, saying the spirit of togetherness must be seen by all partners in the coalition.
"There is some worry that when it comes to responsibilities, there is little of that togetherness in some of the component parties. We are partners through thick and thin, do not leave Umno to bear the heaviest burden.
"Togetherness is not something we only conjure after victory to share the spoils of cabinet positions," he said in his address to the 1,000 Umno Youth delegates at the wing's annual general assembly here today.
Khairy urged all parties in slumber to wake up, stop pointing fingers at each other and prove their togetherness in the thick of the battle.
"We have been victorious from the days when the ballot paper showed the logo of a sailboat – and all this is because of the common ground that we stand on with our fellow component parties.
"And moving into battle this time, this spirit of togetherness must be seen in all partners of BN," he said.
The Youth and Sports Minister also announced that a reshuffle of the Umno Youth Exco bureaus will be implemented early next year.
He said this was in line with its preparation to face the coming general election and in the light of the paradigm shift towards more tech-savvy Malaysians.
"Some bureaus will be combined and whichever is of less relevance to the general election will take a back seat," he said, adding he would direct for the same to be done in the respective states and divisions.
"Our work starting today is 100% geared for the general election," he said.
