KUALA LUMPUR: Umno has recorded an increase in its membership despite the challenges it went through in recent times, said its secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
He added as of Nov 30, this year, its membership stood at 3,573,716.
"Despite attacks on Umno, its membership has continued to increase as a sign of support from time to time," he told delegates at the opening ceremony of the party annual general assembly here today.
He said the number of Umno branch nationwide currently stood at 21,653.
"The spirit of Umno will continue to rise due to the endless support of the grassroots and the leadership at all levels," he added.
He also said Umno and Barisan Nasional have become the target of manipulation and provocation from various groups.
"The continuous attack on Umno came not only from outside but also from those who used to carry the party's struggle.
"Their intention was not only to bring down the Umno president but to also topple the BN government that is chosen by the rakyat through a democratic process," he added.
