BESUT: Four health clinics in Terengganu have obtained approval from the Health Ministry to relocate under the flood substitute project if the original locations were to be affected by flood during the monsoon season.
Terengganu Health director Dr Mohamad Omar said it involved three rural clinics and a dental clinic in the Kemaman, Dungun and Besut districts.
"In Kemaman, it involves the Seberang Tayor rural clinic which has already moved since October and Pasir Gajah rural clinic while in Dungun, the Pasir Raja health clinic and in Besut, the Pasir Akar dental clinic, Hulu Besut.
"The operation of these clinics has to close down temporarily whenever they are affected by floods," he told reporters here.
Dr Mohamad said these clinics played an important role in providing treatment and prevention services to the local residents and, therefore, needed to be move to make it convenient for the residents.
On preparation to face the flood, he said the Health Department has formed a health team at the state and district level involving 443 staff, comprising medical officers, nurses and medical assistants.
He said the health team would act according to the action plan set by the department by adhering to this year's motto "seek and serve" to the flood victims.
As such, Dr Mohamad advised patients who were at risk and required medical attention such as pregnant women, diabetics and those needing hemodialysis treatments to move to a safe place that could be contacted in the event of floods.
He also requested the State Security Council to urgently identify helicopter landing pad to enable the Besut district hospital to transfer high risk patients for immediate treatment at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan or Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Kuala Terengganu.
"This is because Besut has yet to have a helipad to bring high risk patients if the road is cut off," he said. — Bernama
