THE Malaysian Australian Alumni Council (The MAAC) is the national organisation for Malaysian alumni associations of Australian universities and other institutions of higher learning. It represents and serves its member entities on various issues related to MalaysiaAustralia relations.
The MAAC has three distinct portfolios, namely Alumni Relations, Bilateral Relations, and Education & Welfare. Under the Education & Welfare portfolio, potential opportunities were identified towards the development of education and related welfare for both Australians and Malaysians.
One of its major roles is to organise and spearhead The Malaysia Australia Colombo Plan Commemoration (MACC) Scholarships with the support of the Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur, Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training through the Australian Education International (AEI), and AUG Student Services.
The scholarship aims to provide Malaysian and Australian students the opportunity to experience diverse cultures through sponsored education. Since its inception, more than 250 students have been awarded scholarships worth more than RM5 million.
The scholarships include full or partial waivers of tuition fees and are offered to Malaysian and Australian students to undertake their tertiary education from contributing universities and institutions of higher learning in specific or general undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes in Australia and Malaysia.
If you are an MACC scholar, the Alumni Relations portfolio will be establishing the MACC Scholars Alumni Network which you may connect to by writing to admin@ emaac.org
The MAAC will also be hosting its 7th Australian Alumni Gala Dinner on Dec 2 at the JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The dinner is a platform to gather alumni from various Australian universities and institutions of higher learning to network.
