KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will seek additional funds from the government to refurbish older clinics and hospitals.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam (pix) said the funds would be used to repair old structures, wiring and electrical equipment.
"We will solve issues where we can but if the upgrading work requires more funds, we will have to make an application to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister," he said on the sidelines of the Dewan Negara here today.
Subramaniam said that the ministry has started regular visits to clinics and hospitals throughout the country to perform checks.
"I will focus on the quality of the maintenance and whether there are shortcomings in the quality of work performed," he said.
He added that the visits would allow clear communication with the ministry and carelessness can be rectified.
This initiative is in line with the safety audits being conducted in clinics and hospitals nationwide after the fire at Hospital Sultanah Aminah claimed six lives on Oct 25.
