ISKANDAR PUTERI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said the voices of "Solidarity for Rohingya" assembly has been heard by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) which will call for a foreign ministers meeting soon to discuss the issue.
"The mass rally on Sunday was a peaceful assembly by the rakyat, and I attended as a Malaysian. It was not a street demonstration like Bersih 5," he told reporters after launching Iskandar Malaysia's 10th year anniversary celebration at Educity here today.
On Myanmar's accusation that Malaysia is meddling in its internal affairs, Najib said: "I don't care what they said, but our voices have been heard by OIC."
Najib also praised former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for his foresight in setting up Iskandar Malaysia (IM).
"Pak Lah is a far-sighted leader, he proposed several economic region corridors during his time as prime minister. Among others, IM in South Johor is the most successful economy corridor in Malaysia."
On the effectiveness of new measures announced by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) to support the ringgit, Najib said the market and the people should look at it positively as BNM has the expertise to control the ringgit's fall.
"There are many factors that can bring down a currency's value, some factors are beyond our control, but we must stay optimistic."
The performance of the ringgit improved slightly yesterday although it has fallen almost 6% since the US presidential election.
Najib is also confident Malaysia's economy will reach RM2 trillion in seven to eight years.
Najib, who is also Finance Minister, said the rapid development of Iskandar Malaysia will help the country reach the target.
Earlier, Najib refuted the accusation by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that more than 700,000 Chinese nationals will be brought into Forest City,
"The accusation simply does not make sense, as a business friendly government, we should not scare investors," he said.
Earlier, Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim refuted the claim that housing is in over supply in Iskandar Malaysia,
"We should focus on three areas such as security, connectivity and creative sectors that will make Iskandar Malaysia a success by 2025," he said after unveiling the design of Fastrackcity at Pinewood Studios here today.
Najib said the project will turn Iskandar Malaysia into Asia's premier motorsports city.
