KUALA LUMPUR: The Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ) to be implemented in the first quarter of next year in selected locations in the Klang Valley will provide a number of benefits, including tax incentives and faster Customs clearance procedures.
The Communications and Multimedia Ministry in a written reply in the Senate today said the implementation of the initiative will attract more highly skilled talents in addition to offering access to talents from within and outside the country, particularly through appropriate visa for skilled and knowledgeable individuals in specific areas.
"The DFTZ initiative is still in the pipeline where implementation will be through a process of consultation with the relevant parties and approval of the various parties responsible," the ministry said.
DFTZ conceptually is a microcosm that offers a conducive environment for companies in the Internet economy to carry out Internet and digital-based economic activities including trade, provision of services and the development and production of solutions.
The ministry was replying to Senator Datuk Jamilah Sulaiman on the benefits to be derived from the Digital Free Trade Zone concept.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak was reported as saying that Malaysia would draw up attractive packages in the DFTZ to encourage more people to join the e-commerce sector in the country. — Bernama
