KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed slightly higher against the US dollar today on mild buying interests, dealers said.
At 6pm, the local unit was traded at 4.4300/4340 against the US dollar from 4.4330/4380 on Tuesday.
Earlier, the local note opened lower at 4.4340/4400 from the 4.4330/4380 yesterday.
The dealer said the ringgit's performance was in line with several regional currencies such as Indonesia's rupiah, which rose 0.5 per cent to 13,310 per US dollar, the strongest since Nov 15.
"The ringgit and other currencies were on uptrend ahead of the European Central Bank's policy meeting, scheduled to be held this week, which will discuss asset-purchase programme," he said.
Against other major currencies, the ringgit was mostly higher except against the yen, which it declined to 3.8866/8929 from 3.8835/8889 yesterday.
The local note rose against the Singapore dollar to 3.1210/1250 from 3.1229/1273 and appreciated against the British pound to 5.5778/5833 from 5.6486/6589.
