DOSH to file lawsuit at Duta Court soon

KUALA LUMPUR: The Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) will file a lawsuit at Duta Court soon.
Its Deputy Director-General Omar Mat Piah said the move follows after a woman, Chin Khoon Sing, was killed on Aug 25 after the hoist block of a crane at a construction site gave way and crushed her car at Jalan Raja Chulan near Pavilion Mall here.
"We have prepared the investigation papers and received consent from the Attorney-General's Chambers to charge the main contractor.
"We are also waiting for the green light to charge the crane supplier," he said in a news conference yesterday after witnessing the launching of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2016 national seminar here.
He declined to state the contractor's identity, saying it will be revealed after the documents have been filed.
On charges against the main contractor, he said it will fall under Section 17 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) 1984 that states the general duties of employers and self-employed persons other than their employers.
On the recent collapsed bridge near Mid Valley Megamall, he said DOSH and the Works Ministry will form a task force to determine the root cause of the incident.
He declined to state when an initial report on the matter will be made available.
