Kedah Council of Regency to dissolve automatically on Dec 12

ALOR SETAR: The Kedah Council of Regency will dissolve automatically when the Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, completes his reign as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Dec 12.
The Controller of the Royal Household/Principal Private Secretary of the Sultan of Kedah, Datuk Bijaya Indera Datuk Paduka Syed Unan Mashri Syed Abdullah, said Article 18(4)(c) of the Kedah Constitution provides for the Council of Regency to cease functioning once the Sultan returns to the state.
Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah appointed the Council of Regency on Dec 13, 2011, a day before His Majesty ascended the throne as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
The four members of the Council of Regency then were His Majesty's younger brothers Tan Sri Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah, as the chairman, Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah and Tan Sri Tunku Abdul Hamid Thani Sultan Badlishah, and daughter Tunku Panglima Besar, Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Sultan Abdul Halim.
The proclamation of the Council of Regency was held at the Istana Anak Bukit on Dec 12, 2011, and swearing-in of the members took place before Sultan Abdul Halim and Sultanah Tuanku Hajah Haminah.
Following the demise of Tan Sri Tunku Annuar on May 20, 2014, Tan Sri Tunku Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah was proclaimed the chairman of the council on May 21, 2014. — Bernama
