Man dies in shophouse fire

SUNGAI PETANI: A shophouse owner's son died in a fire at Taman Sutera Jaya, Jalan Kuala Ketil, here, today.
The victim, Mohd Shahril Azwan Abdullah, 29, was found unconscious in the toilet on the ground floor of the shophouse by firemen.
Kedah Fire and Rescue public relations officer Nur Hafizah Mohammad Lokman said they received a call at about 6.27am and firemen who arrived 15 minutes later brought the fire under control at about 6.46am.
Initial investigation showed that the victim was believed to have died after inhaling thick smoke, she added.
The fire destroyed 40% of the shophouse and the cause of the fire and estimated loss is still under investigation, she said. — Bernama
