Pudu Rotary Club celebrates 50th anniversary

PETALING JAYA: The Pudu Rotary Club recently held a gala dinner to celebrate its 50 years of charitable contributions to society since it was formed in 1966.
The dinner on Dec 10 is also in conjunction with the launching of a 50th anniversary coffee table book, an exhibition, presentation of scholarships, and the launch of a fellowship trip to Malacca.
The exhibition was held in Sungei Wang Plaza from Dec 5 to 11 which showcased the club's achievements over the years, and was declared open on Dec 10 by Romanian Ambassador Constantin Volodea Nistor.
The club's charity foundation also gave away scholarships worth RM63,000 to 165 secondary school students, three undergraduates, and a post graduate.
The Pudu Rotary Club also handed over two fully-equipped ambulances worth RM340,000 to St. John Ambulance and the money was raised from well wishers, friends of Rotary, and private corporations.
Additionally, St. John Ambulance also received an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) worth RM12,000 donated by the club's sister clubs in other countries.
Thailand's former deputy prime minister and past Rotary International President Bhichai Rattakul was guest of honour at the gala dinner.
The dinner was attended by sister club members from Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, and the Philippines, who were then taken on a fellowship trip to Malacca on Dec 11.
