Man and girlfriend sentenced to death for drug trafficking

JOHOR BARU: The High Court sentenced a man and his girlfriend to death after they were found guilty of two drug trafficking charges today.
Judge Datuk Mohd Sofian Abd Razak said the defence had failed to raise any reasonable doubt in the case against M. Krishnan Murthy, 31, and S. Gayathry, in her 20s,
He added the defence claimed that a person named Gunalan had access to the room where the drugs was found, but failed to prove the existence of the person.
The duo were charged with trafficking in 184.64gm of heroin and 87.5gm of monoacethylmorphines at 19-08, block C, Apartment Sri Impian, Jalan Larkin Perdana 1, Larkin Perdana, here at 9.15pm on May 25, 2014.
On the second offence, they were charged at the same place and time with trafficking in 112.96gm mathamphetamine.
The offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, is punishable with the mandatory death sentence on conviction.
The duo were represented by lawyer Mohd Fazly Ali Mohd Ghazali and Arif Aizuiddin Masrom, while DPP Norafiah Saini appeared for the prosecution.
