Thai police foils attempt to smuggle 700kg of ketum leaves

SADAO: Thai Police last night seized 19 sacks of ketum leaves weighing 700kg about to be smuggled into the country at the Malaysia-Thailand border fence, here.
Thai 437th Border Police chief, Col Pahol Kerdkaew said four Thai men were arrested while trying to cut the steel fencing separating the two countries.
"The estimated value of the ketum leaves seized was RM300,000," he said today, adding the men between 21 and 48 years-old are from Songkhla.
Besides the ketum leaves, Thai police also seized a car, a handphone and tools used to cut through the fence. — Bernama
