Woman dies after car skidded and hit palm oil tree

    KUANTAN: A woman was killed while her sister injured when the vehicle they were traveling in skidded before crashing into a palm oil tree along the main road in Jengka 22, Maran near here, early today.

    Pahang Public Order and Traffic Department chief Supt Mohd Noor Yusof Ali said in the 1.40am accident, the victim Sunarti Abdul Rani, 33, who was driving a Perodua Viva died at the scene.

    He said her sister, Rosmah, 36, who suffered a broken left arm and right leg, was rushed to the Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh after being treated at Jengka Hospital.

    "The accident occurred when the victims were on their way from Kuala Krau in Temerloh to Jengka 23 and lost control of the vehicle before it skidded and crashed into a palm oil tree," he told reporters here, today.

    Mohd Noor said initial investigations revealed that Sunarti, an employee at an eatery here, did not have a valid driving licence.
    In a separate incident, Mohd Noor said a Kuantan Community College student Amir Zafri Abdul Aziz, 18, was killed when the car he was driving crashed into a trailer at KM41, Jalan Kuantan-Kemaman, here at 6.50am.

    He said that Amir Zafri from Taman Geliga 2, Kemaman, was believed to have lost control of his car causing it to swerve onto the next lane in front of the trailer which was traveling from Kuantan to Kemaman.

    "The car went out of control before spinning and the trailer driver couldn't brake on time. The victim died on the scene due to severe head injuries," he said.

    Mohd Noor added trailer lorry driver, M. Kumar, 38, from Sungai Bakap, Penang, was not injured and both cases were being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1887. — Bernama
