KUALA LUMPUR: A 16-month-old baby girl with a hole-in-heart condition, needs about RM100,000 to undergo treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
Nur Aina Nasuha from Penaga, Butterworth was detected to be suffering from hole-in-heart condition and narrowed coronary arteries since she was one month old by doctors at the hospital in Sungai Petani, Kedah as well as at the Penang Hospital.
According to her father, Mohd Zahir Musa, 38, every month since she was nine months old, he and his wife Norazila Jaafar, 31, has had to take their third child to the hospital in Sungai Petani for treatment.
"The case was later referred to the Penang Hospital before it was brought to the IJN on Nov 18," he told Bernama when met at the IJN here today.
On Nov 21, Nur Aina underwent her first operation at the IJN, with doctors performing the Ventricular Septal Defect Closure (VSD) treatment to close the hole in the heart. She is scheduled to undergo a second operation tomorrow to insert a pacemaker into her body.
Mohd Zahir said he hoped the operation would be successful.
"I want what is best for my daughter, I cannot bear seeing her go through the pain," he said.
Mohd Zahir who works as a mechanic in Penaga earns only about RM1,800 a month, which is not enough for him to pay for the follow-up treatment for his daughter.
He also has two other daughters who are still schooling, Nur Aulia Maisara, 10, and Nur Iman Qhaisyara, 7, and hopes the public could donate to ease their financial burden.
According to IJN Foundation, Nur Aina is one of the patients receiving aid from it, but additional funds are needed and should be channelled to it.
A pacemaker is a device placed in the chest or abdomen to help control abnormal heart rhythms. It uses electrical pulses to prompt the heart to beat at a normal rate.
Members of the public who want to donate to Nur Aina can do so through Maybank 564258577396 under the name IJN Foundation or contact senior executive, Administration and Finance, IJN Foundation, Siti Fairus Abdul Mohamed at telephone number 03-26178200 extension 3196 or 019-6032942 for confirmation. — Bernama
