KUALA LUMPUR: The government is implementing a very systematic development in its effort to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emmissions in the country.
Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA) secretary general Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang said one of the measures was to improve the public transportation in cities.
"Mass Rapid Transit or MRT is part of it. We need to reduce the carbon intensity and we need to plant more trees," he told reporters after delivering a talk entitled "Sustainable Future Through Education" at Harvard's Talk Show organised by the National Library, here today.
The first phase Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) MRT was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak yesterday, involving 12 stations between Sungai Buloh and Semantan (21km) which started its operation today.
Zaini also said that people globally had become more concerned towards the effort to address climate change and global warming.
"I think a lot of people realised their roles in addressing this issue. Everyone should play their part ... They need to know their responsibilities and here education is very important," he added. — Bernama
