JOHOR BARU: Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan (pix) said police is currently investigating about 20 non-government organisations (NGOs) for allegedly involved in receiving foreign funds to carry out activities such as toppling the government.
"Investigation against Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah is not completed yet," he told reporters after officiating the “Icon searching” event organised by Johor Muslimah Entrepreneur Association here yesterday.
Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah, who was detained for 11 days under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), was released on Nov 29.
"Investigation on Bersih 2.0 is still ongoing, police have also started investigations on 20 NGOs nationwide.
"The investigations are based on information that these NGOs allegedly received funds from George Soros along with other foreign and local funds," Nur Jazlan said.
He added that there was no time frame for the police to complete the investigations.
He said that Bersih 2.0 was registered with Registry of Company (ROC) as an advertising company but it had carried out several demonstrations allegedly promoting democracy for the nation.

Meanwhile, Nur Jazlan refuted claims by certain quarters that drug rehabilitation centres will be closed.
"Drug rehabilitation centres are for the drug addicts who were convicted at court. Its ministry will continue to manage these rehabilitation centres despite the high costs.
"Our country adopted a zero tolerance with drug abuse policy. We need rehabilitation centres to cure these convicts," he said.
