ALOR STAR: The Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) is not afraid of the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) which is now trying to gain influence and support from the people in the state to join the party.

Kedah BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah (pix) said, however, the state BN would not treat the matter lightly although such things were normal in politics.

He said the people were now able to evaluate and see the capability of the opposition in doing anything for them.

"The PPBM itself cannot woo the PAS or DAP members, so it will try to steal Umno members who are disappointed as they had lost as the candidate whether at the branch or state level," he said at the ceremony to hand out MBAS welfare contributions at Taman Wira Mergong, here today.

He said that Umno members who were disappointed would take the opportunity offered by PPBM or any other opposition party to join them and become election candidates.
Meanwhile Ahmad Bashah, who is also Mentri Besar, said the state government allocated up to RM30,000 as schooling aid for each state legislative constituency in Kedah.

He said all state legislative constituencies under the Barisan Nasional (BN) would receive directly the allocation to be given to selected families in their respective constituency while the state constituencies which were not under the BN would receive the aid channelled through the coordinator of the constituency.

Also present at the event was Alor Star Datuk Bandar Datuk Mohd Zohdi Saad, Umno division heads, community leaders and representatives of the sponsors.

At the ceremony, 200 primary school pupils received basic schooling needs such as a pair of school uniform, shoes and stockings contributed by Syarikat SY Kasturi. — Bernama
