9 stranded climbers brought down safely from Gunung Gading

    KUCHING: A search and rescue team managed to bring down the nine climbers stranded yesterday at Gunung Gading, Lundu, by 9.40pm last night.

    A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the injured among the victims were immediately attended to by the Lundu fire and rescue mobile emergency squad and subsequently referred to Lundu Hospital.

    The Lundu fire and rescue station received a distress call at 6.30pm yesterday and immediately launched an operation to rescue the victims comprising two women and seven men.

    Meanwhile, the body of a 78-year-old man who was reported missing after his boat capsized near the Kampung Serpan jetty in Asajaya, Kota Samarahan was recovered by villagers at 1.55am this morning.

    The spokesman said Sidi Jiman's body was found eight kilometres from the jetty, about 60km from Kuching.

    The senior citizen was believed to have gone fishing in the river. — Bernama
