KUALA LUMPUR: Passers-by carried out a citizen's arrest on a rogue policeman and two of his accomplices on spotting them assaulting a man near Lorong Haji Taib 1 here.
The policeman who is a constable in his early 20's and is attached to the federal police headquarters was later found in possession of a fake pistol, a tactical knife and a small amount of syabu.
Sources said the constable had gone to the area at about 11pm with two accomplices, both civilians in their 20's and is believed to have trailed their victim, who is also in his 20's.
When the victim entered a budget hotel where he stayed, the constable's accomplices stepped in and forced the man out of the place.
Sources told theSun the policeman who had joined the police force barely a year ago confronted the victim and ordered him into a car.
However, the man refused and put up a struggle. He was attacked by the three men and on sighting the victim in trouble, bystanders intervened and subdued the constable and his accomplices before calling the police.
A patrol car arrived the scene soon after and detained all three men.
Police believe the suspects were attempting to abduct and rob the victim.
Investigators also believe that the suspects who are under probe for causing hurt, possession of syabu, carrying a dangerous weapon and a fake firearm were possibly involved in a robbery case reported in Kajang several hours prior to the incident.
Dang Wangi police chief Mohd Sukri Kaman said the trio remain in detention for further investigations.
