IPOH: Malaysia National Sikhs Movement (GERAKSIKH) wants authorities to investigate an author who claimed in a book that Sikhism originated from Islam.
The movement which lodged a police report here yesterday stated the book entitled "Yahudi, Kristian, Hindu and Buddha orginated from Islam" authored by Ahmad Iqram Mohamad Noor.
Its secretary-general, Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill said:"It is shocking that the author and the publisher can be so careless to print the topic which was clearly meant to confuse the reader and others to understand that the Sikh religion originated from Islam.
"This is absolutely wrong and baseless and an act of blasphemy and cannot be tolerated by us particularly in Malaysia where all faiths live in harmony," said Amarjit in a press statement.
According to him there were also grave factual errors in the book including a suggestion that Guru Nanak, the founder of the Sikh religion had performed the Hajj in Mecca and that Kabir, a devout Muslim saint is said as the person who came up with the base of the Sikh religion before being founded by Guru Nanak.
"Malaysian Sikhs are upset with the publication of the book with these erroneous facts on Sikhism which is an attempt at trying to change the history or dilute the facts on the foundation of Sikhism to the public at large. This is utterly wrong" stressed Amarjit.
The movement wants the author to issue a public apology and immediately remove the books from book shelves until the errors are rectified.
Earlier in June, a similar erroneous statement were made by a UTM lecturer in his slides which discussed on the foundation of Sikhism which led to UTM Vice Chancellor making a public apology and take disciplinary action against him.
