KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 96 cases of intrusion of state land in Cameron Highlands have been detected to date, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim told Dewan Negara today.
He said the intrusion involved 661.7ha of state land, 531.8ha of forest reserve, 5.38ha of orang asli settlement, 8.04ha of river reserve and 98.09ha of road reserve.
"Land is a state matter. However, legal action and restoration of land had been taken by the Cameron Highlands Restoration Committee under the Pahang state government.
"Many people do not believe that Cameron Highlands can be restored due to excessive land clearing which has deprived tourists of the cool temperature," he said replying to a question form Senator Datuk Jamilah Sulaiman who asked about the land intrusion in Cameron Highlands.
Shahidan said the government would not compromise against the culprits involved and believed the deployment of commandos in Cameron Highlands will curb the illegal intrusion. — Bernama
