No Malaysians affected in Berlin truck incident: Foreign Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysians were affected in the incident in Berlin this morning when a truck ploughed through a Christmas market, leaving at least 12 people dead and about 50 injured, the Foreign Ministry said today.
It said in a statement that the Malaysian Embassy in Berlin, through the Malaysian Consulate General in Frankfurt, was in close contact with the local authorities and had provided the latest information on the incident to the Malaysian community in and around Berlin.
The incident occurred at about 8pm yesterday (3am today in Malaysia) at the Christmas market on Breitscheidplatz Square near Kurfuerstendamm Avenue in the west of Berlin, it said.
"A suspect believed to be the driver of the truck was arrested near the scene," it added.
The ministry said Malaysia expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the incident. — Bernama
