KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia has released a stamp series in honour of Malaysia's Paralympics gold medalists.
Its group chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh said the "Golden Moment in Paralympics Rio 2016' was to celebrate the heroic achievements of Malaysia's Mohamad Ridzuan Mohamad Puzi, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli and Abdul Latif Romly who clinched gold medals during the recent Rio 2016 Paralympics in Brazil.
"We never had a non-ruler's face printed on a stamp while they were still alive. This is a recognition given only to our Paralympic heroes.
"The issuance of this stamp series is to honour our athletes for their achievements. To win a gold medal in any sports is an arduous feat, let alone the Paralympics.
"These athletes sacrificed their time, family as well as beating all odds to be the best among the best in the international sporting arena," he said during the issuance of the stamp series at the Dayabumi Complex today.
Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who was in attendance at the launch event, said the move is a huge honour for the athletes.
"I would like to thank Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak for allowing their faces to be on the stamps.
"This is the highest respect given to the athletes," he said.
Muhammad Ziyad speaking on behalf of the three athletes, said it was one of the biggest honours he had ever been accorded.
The stamps valued at RM0.95 each, has the image of the three Paralympians in their specialised events which contributed to Malaysia's first ever gold haul in the prestigious event.
The complete set of the stamp series is available at RM23.00 each.
