PETALING JAYA: Poultry company Lay Hong Bhd’s 49%-owned subsidiary NHF Manufacturing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (NHFM) has launched five frozen processed chicken products, as part of the group’s business expansion strategies.
Japan NH Foods Ltd (NH Foods) owns the remaining 51% in NHFM.
Lay Hong’s executive director Yap Chor How said in a statement yesterday that the launch of Nippon premium Nutriplus is in line with the National Transformation Plan 2050 to set Malaysia as a food exporter by 2050, instead of relying on imported food.
“The demand for food is increasing gradually. In fact, by 2050, Malaysia is expected to have a population of 50 million people, and it is important that players like Lay Hong be able to produce enough food for the nation’s consumption,” Yap added.
Going forward, Yap said the group aims to extend the products’ distribution channels to petrol stations, supermarkets and hypermarkets as well as other convenience stores.
“Soon, our customers will be able to find Nippon premium Nutriplus products in many places, beyond the conventional stores.
“We believe in offering a range of choices to our customers. In the future, we will expand the product line to include frozen fried chicken, hamburger, meat ball, fuwatama omelette and dim sum in the near future,” Yap said.
The products are currently produced in Lay Hong’s manufacturing plant in Tanjong Karang, Selangor.
The group said it is also working on a plan to establish a new manufacturing facility in Kapar, with a target to commence operations by 2018.
Yap added that, as all products offered by NHFM is halal certified, the group is planning to export its products to Singapore, Japan and the Middle East by leveraging on its partner – NH Foods’ network and expertise.
