PETALING JAYA: The 7th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM 2016) has generated a record RM2.2 billion in business leads throughout the four-day event, according to its co-organiser Malaysian Green Technology Corp (GreenTech Malaysia).
The annual event, which is organised by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA), surpassed all targets and previous years’ records, registering participation from 350 exhibitors with 419 booths.
The seventh edition of IGEM attracted a diverse group of visitors from 33 countries, comprising regulators, policy makers, investors, entrepreneurs, embassies and trade commissioners amongst others.
“IGEM 2016 has been the most successful IGEM yet,” GreenTech Malaysia group CEO Ir Ahmad Hadri Haris said in a statement yesterday.
“Despite current global economic uncertainties, it is encouraging to see companies prioritising investment in green technology – a reflection of the region’s commitment to bolster the green economy,” he added.
During the event, GreenTech Malaysia said it forged six partnerships worth over RM130 million. This includes collaboration with BMW Malaysia, Petronas Dagangan Bhd and the organiser of the International Electric Vehicle Expo with a focus on expanding Malaysia’s sustainable mobility agenda.
Apart from GreenTech Malaysia’s partnerships, business leads were also generated from several business matching sessions including business consultation by Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida), Jubila business matching by Malaysian Exhibition Services and international business matching by Malaysia External Trade Development Corp.
GreenTech Malaysia said Mida contributed the highest potential in investment, amounting to RM1.2 billion.
Since its inception in 2010, IGEM has generated over RM10 billion in business leads, attracting over 330,000 visitors from 50 countries including delegates, dignitaries and companies from China, Germany, Japan, Norway, the Netherlands, the UK and the US.
IGEM 2017 is slated to be held from Oct 11 to 13 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
