KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will have a ministerial tripartite meeting wih Australia and China before making comments on the recommendation by experts to extend the search for MH370 to another additional 25,000km².
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi (pix) said: "We cannot comment now. We need to discuss with China and Australia."
Investigators searching for the missing MH370 who want the search extended to an area further north in the Indian Ocean also conceded for the first time they were probably looking in the wrong location.
Kaprawi speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby said: "This is a rather strange development from Australia's Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) since they were also involved with the calculations made in narrowing the search area. We would need to have a tripartite meeting before deciding the way forward based on the latest development from ATSB."
He added that any decisions to be made in regard to MH370 will be made only after the tripartite meeting.
Failure to locate any wreckage after scouring the 120,000km² search zone, Australian and international experts met in Canberra last month to review their evidence and modelling.
No trace has been found in the massive undersea hunt off Australia for the jet that disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014, carrying 239 passengers and crew.
