KUALA LUMPUR: Former accused turned prosecution witness G. Gunasekaran told the High Court today that he was shaken up after seeing blood stains on the oil drum which contained the remains of deputy public prosecutor Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais.
Replying to questions by deputy public prosecutor Saiful Edris Zainuddin at the trial, Gunasekaran, 48, said following the purchase of the oil drum on Sept 4, he and sixth accused S. Nimalan, 23, left the drum outside the premises of a shophouse in USJ 1, Subang Jaya.
"The next day, I received a call from S. Ravi Chandaran (the seventh accused) that there was a commotion at the premises.
"I immediately rushed back to the premises as I was concerned," he said, adding that at that time he was renovating the shophouse into a restaurant.
Upon arrival, Gunasekaran said he saw Ravi Chandaran, 45, Nimalan and fourth accused R. Dinishwaran, 24, standing by the oil drum when he noticed the blood stains.
Sensing something amiss, Gunasekaran said he raised his voice at them before storming off the premises.
Upon leaving, Gunasekaran testified that he was immediately contacted by the first accused (pathologist Col Dr K. Kunaseegaran, 53).
Agreeing to meet him at the Petronas station near The Summit shopping centre, Gunasekaran then told the army pathologist that something was not right.
However, he told the court despite relaying the events, Kunaseegaran did not appear to be shocked and only smiled, telling him to stay calm, focus on completing the renovation of the shophouse and to "stay out of it".
Still shaken, Gunasekaran said Kunaseegaran then bought him six cans of beer to help calm him down and drove him to a temple in Tanjong Malim to pray before dropping him back at their meeting point.
Later that day Gunasekaran said he returned to the premises to find the oil drum missing and the place "cleaned up".
Five men Dinishwaran, A. K. Thinesh Kumar, 26, M. Vishwanath, 26, Nimalan, and Ravi Chandaran, stand accused of murdering Morais between 7am and 8pm on Sept 4, 2015, between Jalan Dutamas Raya Sentul and No.1 Jalan USJ1/6D, Subang Jaya.
Kunaseegaran allegedly abetted the five men in murdering Morais at the same place, date and time.
Freed from the murder charge, Gunasekaran who was the second accused pleaded guilty and sentenced to two years' imprisonment at the Sessions' Court on Tuesday for causing disappearance of evidence.
The trial before High Court judge Datuk Azman Abdullah continues on Jan 17.
