MQA no dealings with institution

PETALING JAYA: A private local college that had earlier claimed that its hospitality twinning programme with an Australian academic partner was accredited by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) has now said that was not the case.
The college was in the spotlight recently after theSun reported that 45 of its graduates had not received their diploma certificates after completing the programme.
The students had said that they were having difficulty getting a job without their certificate.
The registrar of the college, Tan Boon See, had claimed the two-year hospitality programme that cost RM32,000 was accredited by MQA when asked at a media conference on Monday.
But checks with the MQA proved otherwise.
Its chief executive officer Datuk Ruhjan Mustafa said MQA has no dealings with the institution.
"The institution, according to our records, never applied for accreditation nor was it granted one. We hope that with this clarification, the readers and general public will not be misled about the accreditation status of the programme in this issue," he said in a statement.
However, when contacted by theSun today, Tan changed her story and said the the programme was accredited by the Human Resources Ministry and Skills Development Department (JPK) and not the MQA as she had earlier said.
Efforts to contact JPK for confirmation were unsuccessful.
On Monday, Tan said the collaboration with their Australian partner has been going on since 2013.
She said the ownership and management of the Australian partner has changed twice in the past two years.
She added the college had neglected its role in this academic collaboration after it failed to deliver the diploma certificates to the graduates.
