MACC, LHDN join forces to combat corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) will go into a closer partnership to combat corruption within the LHDN.
A meeting between MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad and LHDN chief executive officer Datuk Sabin Samitah was conducted today which will enable both MACC and LHDN to identify individuals involved in graft-related offences and those who fail to declare their income to avoid tax payment.
"Both agencies have agreed to cooperate and exchange intelligence in matters pertaining to corruption and abuse of power.
"The exchange of intelligence would enable particular corruption cases to be referred to the LHDN for further action," MACC said in a statement today.
The statement added that those involved in graft offences would not only be investigated under MACC Act 2009 (Act 694) but will be investigated under the Income Tax Act 1967 (Act 53).
