Police arrest local male, seize more than 60g syabu

LAHAD DATU: Police have arrested a local man, believed to be a drug pusher who was found in possession of 60.28g of syabu at Batu 3 Jalan Segama, Lahad Datu here yesterday morning.
Lahad Datu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hamzah Ahmad said the 28-year-old suspect was detained at about 11.45am while travelling to the Lahad Datu town centre from the outskirts.
"The suspect, who was in a Proton Saga, was inspected and police found a brown patched bag containing 24 pieces of folded white paper of various sizes, and two folded green paper containing what was believed to be syabu.
"The bag was hidden underneath the steering wheel," he told reporters at a press conference here today.
Hamzah said the drugs, worth an estimated RM6,000, were believed to be for the local market.
"The suspect who also tested positive for drugs has now been remanded to help in the investigations of the case under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a death by hanging sentence, if proven guilty," he said.
Meanwhile, he said, police recorded an increase in the number of arrests made for narcotics cases in December 2016, with 48 arrests compared to 24 during the same period last year. — Bernama
