GEORGE TOWN: Buyers of an abandoned project in Paya Terubong, breathed a huge sigh of relief, after it was announced that works to revive the place is expected to be completed by next month.
Penang Housing Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh (pix) said the only job that remains to be done now, is to link the Majestic Height Phase 2A project, a high rise residential building, to the main power grid.
This process is scheduled to start on Jan 9 and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) have given their commitment to start the work then.
He said the process will take about a week to be completed and the certification of completion (CC) can be issued about three to four days later.
"So we hope all will be in order and hope to give buyers their keys before the celebration," he said in a press conference today at the site.
With the revival of the project, Jagdeep said the Mengkuang Heights project was the only abandoned project left in Penang.
He hoped the project can be revived soon, as the administration was to achieve targeting "zero abandoned project" status, in Penang.
Purchasers pro-term committee secretary Khor Boon Peng said the Majestic Height Phase 2A project was supposed to be completed in 1998 and buyers had signed the sales and purchase agreement in 1995.
He thanked the state government and the developer who revived the project for their efforts in ending the 20-year wait.
In a separate function at the Padang Tembak flats, Jagdeep said RM103,880 has been spent to replace a lift at one of the block which was damaged during a suspected arson attempt in July.
He said another two lifts in the same flat, also damaged in a suspected arson attempt last month, will also be replaced with work expected to begin next month.
He said he will propose close circuit television cameras (CCTV) to be installed inside the lifts to deter any mischief.
"I have also asked for a status update on the condition of lifts of all the Padang Tembak flats (nine blocks in total)," he added.
