PETALING JAYA: The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) has launched the "Rumah Selangorku Idaman PKNS Antara Gapi" affordable housing project to help lower and middle-income earners to own houses at reasonable prices.
PKNS public relations manager Ishak Hashim said the project consists of 80 units of two-storey terrace houses priced from RM250,000 to RM293,500 which will be completed in December 2017.
He added that with a unit size of 20x60 sq ft, the project was in line with the state government's commitment to build more affordable and comfortable homes in Selangor.
"The house has a modern touch, and in terms of location, it is very strategic as it is quite near to the PLUS highway as well as the Serendah Komuter Station," Ishak said.
He said that the initial screening to determine potential buyers was fully controlled by the Selangor Housing and Property Board (LPHS).
Those who are interested are encouraged to register with the LPHS if they meet the terms set in the state's affordable housing policy.
He said among the terms to apply for such a house were a collective household income of not more than RM8,000 per month; not owning any other home in Selangor, and the primary reason of the purchase was to live in the premises and not to let it out.
An UPSI language translator Lai Foo Fat, 33, said he is happy that his application has been approved for the project.
Lai said he had applied through the LPHS website on 2015, and received a letter on August this year saying that his application has been approved.
Lai, who is a first-time home buyer added that he had also applied for government initiated housing schemes such as the 1Malaysia People's Housing Programme (PR1MA) and 1Malaysia Civil Servants Homes (PPA1M) but to no avail.
