GEORGE TOWN: The DAP-led Penang government has sought the cooperation of state opposition leader Datuk Jahara Hamid of Barisan Nasional (BN) to resolve the housing issue.
State Exco for Housing, Town and Country Planning, Jagdeep Singh Deo (pix) said an informal agreement was reached during the last Penang State Assembly sitting.
A joint motion urging the federal government to review the decision to reject loans for affordable housing was agreed by Jahara (BN-Telok Ayer Tawar) and Datuk Farid Saad (BN-Pulau Betong).
"The State Secretary has sent a draft motion to Jahara two days ago, to obtain formal approval before the proposal is submitted to the federal government," he told reporters, here today.
On Dec 15, Jagdeep announced the cooperation with BN to resolve the housing issue in Penang but Jahara denied saying it was pending official approval.
Earlier, Jagdeep said three public housing estates have been given strata title ownership. They are Perumahan Taman Tun Sardon Peralihan, Taman Tun Sardon Fasa III and Taman Perumahan Awan Batu Lanchang.
A total of 595 housing units in the three neighbourhoods would receive strata title ownership.
He said the owners need to contact the State Housing Department for the transfer process.
"The state government will continue to issue strata title ownership to other public housing projects with priority for state government projects." — Bernama
