ARAU: The Civil Defence Force (APM) is prepared to provide volunteers to help government agencies in need of support service, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim.

He said Kuala Lumpur City Hall was the first agency to engage 1,000 APM members to assist their enforcement personnel.

"APM is also prepared to dispatch 10,000 members to assist the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry and Forestry Department next year," he told Bernama when met at an appreciation ceremony for Special Affairs Department (JASA) officers here last night.

Shahidan said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had essentially agreed to APM members helping with patrol duties at the border areas in an effort to boost security.

He said APM was also prepared to offer volunteer service to state governments.

Shahidan said he would propose that APM participate in welfare activities carried out by JASA, an agency under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry. — Bernama
