Traffic policeman injured after being rammed by motorcyclist

    BALIK PULAU: A traffic police officer was injured after he was rammed by a motorcyclist at a road block in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah early today.
    Southwest district police chief Supt Annuar Musa said the traffic policeman sustained injuries on his left brow, nose and teeth when he tried to stop a 17-year-old motorcyclist from riding through at about 4.30am.
    Annuar said the boy fell on the road before being arrested.
    "He is a secondary school student and he has a valid licence, " he told media in a statement, adding the traffic policeman was sent to hospital for treatment.
    The case has been classified as obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty and causing injury under the Penal Code.
    During the operation in areas of Bayan Baru and Bayan Lepas from 8pm to 6am, Annuar said, checks were conducted on motorists.
    "During the operation, we also examined 223 people, including 21 women and all of them were aged 14 to 35. The police arrested three men after they tested positive for drugs," he said.
    A total of 137 summonses were issued for various offences in the operation.
    "We also detained three individuals tested positive in urine test, " he said.
    In GEORGE TOWN, Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said police also did similar roadblocks at several places in the district.
    He said 103 compounds were also issued to motorists for traffic offences violated.
    "We also detained a 29-year-old man under alcohol influence in Jalan Perak, "he said.
